FAQ
How do I know how many millimetres to trim?
A4 is 210 × 297 mm and US Letter is 216 × 279 mm. A typical Word margin is 25 mm, so trimming 15 mm from each side removes most of the white space without touching text.
Is the crop permanent?
The crop sets the visible area of each page. The full page is still stored underneath, so a PDF editor can undo it. If you need the cut to be irreversible, print the cropped PDF to a new PDF.
Can I crop just one page?
Yes. Enter a page range such as 1 or 3-5 and the other pages are left untouched.
Can I crop to a specific size, like exactly A5?
Work out the trim from the difference. An A4 page is 210 × 297 mm; to end up at A5 landscape (210 × 148 mm) trim 149 mm from the bottom and nothing else.
Will cropping reduce the file size?
No. The full page content is still in the file — only the displayed area changes. To shrink the file, use Compress PDF after cropping.
What if my pages are different sizes?
The same trim is applied to every selected page, measured from each page's own edges. If a document mixes portrait and landscape pages, crop them in two passes with a page range for each.
About Crop PDF
Cropping fixes two very different problems. The first is the scanner: a page scanned with the lid open comes back with a dark border, a shadow down one side, or the edge of the next sheet, and trimming ten or fifteen millimetres from each edge removes all of it. The second is the screen: a report set with generous print margins wastes a third of a phone display, and trimming those margins makes the text large enough to read without pinching. The trim is entered in millimetres from each edge because that is how people think about paper; it is applied by setting each page's visible area, which every viewer respects and which a PDF editor can still undo.
