Limitations

  • Transparency is lost: transparent areas are filled with white (or the colour you pick) because JPEG has no alpha channel.
  • JPEG is lossy — text, line-art and screenshots come out slightly softened. Keep PNG for those unless size is the priority.

Questions

What is the difference between PNG and JPG?

PNG supports transparency and lossless compression, making it larger. JPG uses lossy compression for much smaller file sizes, ideal for photos and web use.

Can I convert multiple PNG files to JPG at once?

Currently, DocsBolt converts one PNG file at a time. For batch conversion, simply repeat the process for each file — it only takes a few seconds each.

When should I keep PNG instead of converting to JPG?

Keep PNG for anything with sharp edges and flat colour: logos, icons, screenshots of text, and images that need a transparent background. JPG compression is designed for photographs — converting a text-heavy screenshot to JPG can make the text fuzzy, while a photo converts with no visible difference at a fraction of the size.

What happens to transparent areas?

They are filled with white. JPEG has no alpha channel, so every transparent pixel must become a solid colour; if you need a different background, flatten the PNG onto that colour in an image editor first.

What JPEG quality does the converter use?

Quality 92, which is visually lossless for photos and still far smaller than the PNG. If you need a specific file size rather than a quality, run the result through Compress Image with a KB target.
