What ODT to PDF does
The .odt format is what LibreOffice and OpenOffice save by default, and it travels badly: Word opens it with warnings and occasionally shifts the layout, phones often cannot open it at all, and web forms that ask for 'a document' rarely accept it. Converting to PDF removes all of that. The conversion here is done by LibreOffice itself running on our servers, so what you get is exactly what Writer would have printed — the same page breaks, the same table borders, the same headers and footers — rather than a second program's interpretation of the file. Fonts embedded in the document are used as is; standard families are substituted with metric-compatible equivalents where a font is missing.

When you'd use it
- A LibreOffice document for a recipient who cannot open ODT
- A submission where the portal only accepts PDF
- Fixing the layout of a document before printing elsewhere
Limitations
- Rendered by LibreOffice, which is ODT's native application, so fidelity is high — but fonts not installed on the server are substituted.
- Tracked changes are exported as accepted; comments are omitted.
Questions
Will the layout match what I see in Writer?
Yes — the conversion is done by LibreOffice, the same engine that made the file, so page breaks, tables and styles are the ones you designed.
What about fonts I installed on my computer?
If the font is not embedded in the .odt and is not one of the standard families, a close substitute is used. Liberation, DejaVu and Noto families are available and cover most documents.
Can I convert a .doc or .docx here?
Use Word to PDF for those. This page is for the OpenDocument .odt format.
Can I convert several .odt files at once?
One per run. Convert them in turn, then use Merge PDF if they belong together in one file.
Will tracked changes and comments appear in the PDF?
Comments are not printed. Tracked changes appear in the state the document was saved in — if changes were showing, the PDF shows the marked-up text. Accept or reject them in Writer first for a clean copy.
Is the PDF searchable?
Yes. Text stays as text, so it can be selected, searched and read by screen readers.
