What PNG to PDF does

Convert PNG images into a PDF. PNG is what you get from screenshots, exported charts and design tools, and PDF is what reports, submissions and printers expect. Because PNG is lossless, the text and lines in a screenshot stay crisp through the conversion rather than picking up the fuzz that JPEG introduces.

Each PNG is embedded in the PDF as it is — the same bytes, not a re-encoded copy — on a page sized to its pixels at 72 pixels per inch (a 1200×1600 screenshot becomes a 16.7×22.2 inch page). Viewers scale pages to fit, so the size only matters when printing; use Print-to-fit or resize the images first if the output must be A4.

Transparency is kept in the embedded image, but a PDF page is white behind it, so transparent areas print white. The conversion runs in the browser with pdf-lib; a PNG variant it cannot embed (16-bit, some interlaced files) is handed to the server, which decodes it with Pillow and produces the same result.

Limitations

Transparent PNG areas are placed over a white page — there is no transparency in a printed PDF page.
PNGs are embedded losslessly, so a PDF of high-resolution screenshots can be larger than the images themselves suggest.

Are screenshots readable in the finished PDF?

Yes. PNG stores text and sharp edges exactly, so a legible screenshot stays legible. This is the main reason to prefer PNG over JPEG for anything containing type.

What happens to transparent backgrounds?

Transparency is flattened, normally onto white, because a printed page has no concept of transparency. Anything relying on a transparent background should be checked before sending.

Can I mix PNG and JPG in one PDF?

Use the image-to-PDF tool for a mixed set — it accepts both. This tool is aimed at PNG sources specifically.
