What Unlock PDF does

Remove a password from a PDF you can already open. Documents arrive encrypted routinely — bank statements, insurance papers, payslips — and having to key in a password every time is a nuisance once the file is stored somewhere already secure. You need to know the password; this removes the prompt, it does not defeat it.

Limitations

You must know the password. The tool removes protection from a file you can already open; it does not crack passwords.
Owner-only restrictions (no printing, no copying) are removed too; be sure you are entitled to remove them.

Does this change the original file?

Can this open a PDF whose password I don't know?

No. You must supply the correct password. The tool removes protection from a document you are already able to open; it does not break encryption.

Is it legal to remove a password?

For your own documents, or ones you have permission to modify, yes. Stripping protection from someone else's confidential file is not something this tool is meant for.

Does the content change?

No — pages, text, images and layout are identical. Only the encryption layer is removed, so the file opens without a prompt.
